Afghan Refugees Ministry

Located in the crossroads of Central Asia, Afghanistan has endured many years of war and political instability. The news of Taliban's seizure of power on August 15 shocked the international community, and the humanitarian crisis caused by the transfer of power has attracted worldwide attention. The war has left 3.7 million children out of school in Afghanistan and nearly 5 million have been displaced. As the Afghan border is closed and guarded by the Taliban, it is even more difficult for the desperate people to flee. Where will the army of millions of refugees go and settle? According to United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) data, Pakistan and Iran are the countries that receive the most refugees from Afghanistan, and a large number of refugees are currently flocking to Pakistan.

Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness.  When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” (Matthew 9:35-38)

The current refugee crisis in Afghanistan has brought about urgent and long-term needs. From the perspective of the kingdom of God, such a crisis has a great potential to turn into an opportunity for the gospel. In the early days of displacement, it is easier for refugees to open their hearts to the gospel. GIU has seen this group of "harassed and helpless" refugees and quickly plunged into this refugee ministry. However, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few." I implore brothers and sisters to call on the Lord of the crops together to move more churches/organizations and send workers to the poor people to preach the good news of the kingdom of heaven.

We sincerely invite you to participate in the Afghan refugee ministry, whether through prayer, giving, or personal participation. We hope that we will work and walk together on the road of the Great Commission.
